BURTON'S SNAKE LIZARD
SCIENTIFIC NAME :- Lialis burtonis
OCCURRENCE :- Australia , New Guinea
HABITAT :- Semi-desert , rain forest
SIZE :- Length 61 cm
FAMILY :- Pygopodidae
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS :-
- A ground dweller , this lizard is limbless and snake-like with scaly foots , forked tongue which can be extended out of the mouth and the ability to make sounds.
- Its colour and patterns vary but it always has a distinctive brown stripe on each side of the head.
- It has a long pointed snout , long pointed , backward-curving teeth and a long tail.
- It is active both in the day as well as night and feeds on insects , skinks and other small lizards.
- The female lays 2-3 eggs large , elongated eggs which have parchment like shells.
