                             BROOKESIA

SCIENTIFIC NAME :-     Brookesia spectrum
OCCURRENCE :-            Cameroon , Gabon to E.Africa
HABITAT :-                   Forest floor
SIZE :-                          Length 7.5 to 9 cm
FAMILY :-                     Chamaeleonidae








GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS :-

  1. It is a small dusty brown chameleon with little peaks on the head and body resembling leaf veins.
  2. There are two tiny appendages an the snout and stumpy tail is not prehensile.
  3. It seldom changes colour as it spends most of its time among dead leaves.
  4. Its legs are very thin and bony and it moves slowly and can remain still for hours.
  5. It feeds mainly on insects.
  6. The female lays a clutch of 3-6 eggs which she buries in the soil.
