SCIENTIFIC NAME :- Sauromalus obesus
OCCURRENCE :- S.California , Nevada , Utah , Arizona , Mexico
HABITAT :- Rocky desert
SIZE :- Length 28 to 42 cm
FAMILY :- Iguanidae
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS :-
- It is dark-skinned , plump-bodied lizard with a thick pale yellow blunt tipped tail.
- The male is darker than the female with some red or yellow spots on the body while females and juveniles have dark crossbands.
- Diurnal and herbivorous , it emerges in the day to bask in the sun and feed on leaves , buds , flowers etc.
- It can store liquid , when available , in the accessory lymph glands present in the folds of skin on its sides.
- The female lays 5-10 eggs in a hole dug in the ground.
