                    MELLER'S CHAMELEON

SCIENTIFIC NAME :-      Chamaeleo melleri
OCCURRENCE :-              Tanzania , Malawi
HABITAT :-                     Savanna vegetation
SIZE :-                            Length 54 to 58 cm
FAMILY :-                       Chamaeleonidae







 

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS :-

  1. It is a brightly coloured arboreal lizard with broad yellow stripes and black spots on the body.
  2. The body is flattened from side to side , eyes are large and protuberant , muscular prehensile tail is 28-29 cm long and the tongue is protrusible with sticky pads at the tip.
  3. It has a tiny snout horn.
  4. It feeds on small birds and insects.
  5. Reproduction is by laying eggs which the mother buries in a hole in the ground.
  6. It has the ability to change colour of its skin for camouflaging itself.
