SCIENTIFIC NAME :- Lacerta Muralis
OCCURRENCE :- N.France to N.Spain , S.Italy , Greece , east to Romania
HABITAT :- Dry , Sunny areas , Walls , Rocks , Tree trunks
SIZE :- Length upto 23 cm
FAMILY :- Lacertidae
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS :-
- It is a slender , flat-bodied sunloving , active lizard with a long tapering tail measuring about twice the length of the body.
- Its coloration varies over its range but it is commonly brownish-green or grey with dark markings.
- It has large scales on the head and belly.
- An expert climber and gregarious by nature , it lives in small colonies.
- It feeds on insects like beetles and flies and also earthworms , spiders , snails and slugs.
- They hibernate in winters and mate in spring.
- The males compete fiercely for the female.
- The female lays 2-10 eggs and buries them in the soil where they remain till they hatch after 2-3 months.
