                         FRILLED LIZARD 

SCIENTIFIC NAME :-        Chlamydosaurus Kingii
OCCURRENCE :-               New Guinea , Australia
HABITAT :-                      Dry forest , Woodland
SIZE :-                             Length 66 cm
FAMILY :-                        Agamidae

 






GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS :-

  1. It is a slender lizard with a long tail measuring upto 44 cm and a ruff-like collar of skin around the neck about 25.5 cm in diameter.
  2. When alarmed , the lizard opens its mouth wide and the brightly coloured frill stands erect which normally lies in folds around the neck and shoulders.
  3. It has long legs and triangular shaped head.
  4. It is active during day time and feeds on insects and other small animals.
  5. The female lays the eggs in the soil.
