JACKSON'S CHAMELEON
SCIENTIFIC NAME :- Chamaeleo jacksonii
OCCURRENCE :- Uganda,Tanzania to N.Mozambique
HABITAT :- Savanna vegetation
SIZE :- Length 11 to 12 cm
FAMILY :- Chamaeleonidae
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS :-
- It is an arboreal green coloured lizard with a body flattened from side to side , large protuberant eyes and a muscular prehensile tail.
- The male has three prominent horns on the head and the female has only one small horn and a snout and rudimentary horns by each eye.
- The eyes can be moved independently of one another to locate the prey.
- It has the ability to change the colour of its skin for camouflage purposes.
- The protrusible tongue with a sticky pad in the front helps to capture insects which is the main food.
- The female lays about 20-40 eggs out of which only 10 or so young survive.
