Phelsuma

                               PHELSUMA

SCIENTIFIC NAME :-       Phelsuma vinsoni
OCCURRENCE :-              Mauritius and neighbouring Islands
HABITAT :-                     Forest
SIZE :-                            Length 17.5 cm
FAMILY :-                       Gekkonidae







GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS :-

  1. It is a vividly coloured lizard with bright red spots on a blue and green back and brown lines on the head and neck.
  2. The female has the similar patterning but is slightly duller and tinged with brown or grey.
  3. The eyes have permanently closed transparent eyelids.
  4. Diurnal and a good climber - it feeds on fruits like bananas , nectar of flowers apart from insects which consists its main diet.
  5. The female lays 2 sticky surfaced eggs which hatch after 9-12 weeks depending upon the temperature.
